The First Steps Toward Recovery

Juniper holding her head but still unable to support herself

When Juniper suddenly became so ill she couldn’t stand, our first call was to our trusted vets,Derwent Vale farm Vets, who prescribed a long course of daily antibiotics, anti inflammatory medication

and vitamins and with their guidance, we got to work.

The first days were hard—she was weak and vulnerable. Every time I entered the barn, I wondered if she would make it through another night. Then, something extraordinary happened: Juniper lifted her head. It was only a small movement, but it felt monumental.

With that glimmer of hope, I doubled down on her care. Every day, I gently laid her over a bale of hay to let her legs dangle in the correct position, ensuring blood could flow properly. I carefully moved her legs for her, hoping to maintain some muscle strength. It wasn’t easy, but I knew Juniper was fighting to recover.

Read on in the next chapter of her journey, where she begins to take matters into her own hooves!
