Rosedale Goats Cheese
Our Story So Far
Jonty and Suzie attended a goat cheese making course in 2017 down in Sussex ,near where they lived. to enable them to be able to use the milk from their girls and learn how to make basic goats cheese. In 2019 they moved to Abbey Fram Cottage in the North York Moors on the edge of the picturesque village of Rosedale Abbey.
They gained Full approval 23rd December 2023 for their cheeses Bell End Blue and The Rosedale, which can currently be found to buy direct from us at Goathland Farmers Market, Hunters of Helmsley ,The Cheese Trader York, and from the farm or on line.
We have taken our Rosedale cheeses to a couple of chefs and we are pleased to announce that they are on the menus of all of their restaurants .

Andrew Pern the one Michelin starred chef from The Star Inn Harome, Star in the City York and the York Minster Refectory Visited Abbey Farm Cottage "The Rosedale Goats Cheeses grace our cheeseboard and a number of dishes at The Star Inn and its sibling establishments in York. Full of character, like the producers ,this sharp salty citrussy and unpasteurised cheese seems to give a certain "terroir" to its place of origin .It is as if you can taste the country air of the moors ,and the flora of the surrounding rugged grasslands in their diet within this amazing cheese! Another fantastic addition to our local pantry, literally on our doorstep, Well done!"

Peter Neville of the Homestead Kitchen Goatland " I have worked in Michelin starred restaurants and this is the best goats cheese I've ever tasted"
Stu Frestone of The Cheese Trader York " The bast Comparison I Could make is that they are like the Yorkshire Delice de Bourgogne of goats milk Cheeses".
Our award winning Raw goats milk used in our cheese making is not subject to pasteurisation, the flash heating process that destroys both the good and bad bacteria and enzymes which occurs naturally in milk.

Raw Goats Drinking Milk is also available from the Farm and via mail order.

The Cheeses

Our award winning cheese is made using our raw milk from our own Smock Alley Goats , theerefore the milk is not subject to pasteurisation, the flash heating process that destroys both the good and bad bacteria and enzymes which occurs naturally in milk.

Our Cheeses are currently for sale from the farm and via the internet at £10 per cheese and is available from local farm shops and Delis

The Rosedale
The Rosedale was awarded Gold at the Global Cheese awards 2024 for best Goats cheese not hard pressed. It is a creamy flavoursome cheese due to the use of raw milk and the good bacteria that non-pasteurisation leaves with really no hint of "goat taint" until it matures
Bell End Blue
(named after the area of Rosedale called Bell End as it was the last place in the village where you could hear the bell toll)
The Bell End Blue was a awarded s Silver at the Global Cheese awards for best blue veined cheese (uk) soft. It is Camembert like too with minimal veining that's incredibly creamy with a salty and blue finish. As Bell end blue matures and hydrates the blue flavour becomes more pronounced as does the veining.

Bell Top Crottin available from 2025
This is a typical French style carotin cheese again made from our raw goats milk that has the same creamy taste but this cheese has a citrus end note.
